The Cleveland Campus Mosaic program is a program to intentionally diversify the campus ministry program in terms of our Board of Trustees, the UPCaM staff, and programs on our Cleveland campuses. The process started in 1999 with the adoption of a "Moving Towards Diversity" task force by the UPCaM Board of Trustees. In 2003, through grants received from Presbyterian Women (USA) and the Collacott Foundation, UPCaM was able to establish the "Cleveland Campus Mosaic Program" and have campus ministers dedicated to each of our main campuses: the Reverend Kathy Wingo at the Metropolitan Branch of Cuyahoga Community College, the Reverend Patricia Foote at Cleveland State University, and the Reverend Heather Godsey at the Case/University Circle campus ministry (which includes Cleveland Institute of Art, Cleveland Institute of Music, and the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine as well as Case Western Reserve University). In addition to diversifying the program on our campuses, the ministries make available special spiritual and pastoral opportunities for women on the three campuses. Each campus holds unique challenges for women students. At the Case campus, it is normal for the male undergraduate population to be over 60% of the total student body, making women a decided minority on campus. At our commuter campuses at CSU and CCC-Metro, women students are often challenged not only by their academics, but by financial concerns, part-or-full-time employment, and family concerns. Often, these issues can seem overwhelming. The campus ministry team of UPCaM provides a spiritual contact for nurture for women on our campuses who seek this pastoral care. The Cleveland Campus Mosaic program also holds a large challenge to individuals, churches, and foundations in the Cleveland area who are interested in campus ministry, racial diversity, and the concerns of women in higher education. When grant monies are exhausted in 2007, the UPCaM operating budget will need to raise an additional $70,000 per year simply to keep the program at current levels. UPCaM is currently seeking support for the Cleveland Campus Mosaic beginning in the calendar year 2007. If you, your church, your church group, or foundation can help, please contact the Rev. Dr. Kim A. Hauenstein, Executive Director, United Protestant Campus Ministries in Cleveland, 11205 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44106; telephone (216) 231-2260, extension 1.
